Productivity & Facebook

The last couple of days have been really productive for me. I got the Disciples page at ReverbNation set up finally as well as our FB Group. Sample tracks we're working on this weekend if our luck holds out. Not that anyone's joining the latter. I've had more requests at ReverbNation from total strangers. No biggie, I know most people aren't gonna like our music style. It'd of been nice if when I asked for feedback though that I'd of gotten some. I have my big girl britches on, I could've taken people saying "No, you shouldn't start a fan page." It was the requests at Reverb that had me go ahead and set it up.

Sad really, but I can count those who tell me when I'm barking up the wrong tree on one hand. We've begun looking at ways to expand our circle of friends, to add some who might actually LIKE what we do or at the very least some like minded bands. Depending on how far we progress in the next month, there is a Cancer Benefit in Knoxville that I'd love to take part in. We shall see!

Snow is on the way as well as overnight lows of 14! If it gets that cold we'll be packing Lily up and staying at my parents. They have a new heat pump so it's just better for us to stay there when it's that cold.

I also managed to get most of the links up here on my blog. A few are still lacking and I have added a few that weren't there the first time around. As I think of more that should be there I'll add them in.

In the event our luck holds out, I'll be doing some makeup reviews this weekend too. That's gonna depend more on if Lily lets me! She's, of course, at the age where she's demanding more attention. Thanks Goddess for a hubby who helps me out SO much...and for Bouncy seats and swings LOL.

I also need to sit down one night and get this magazine idea all sorted. I have a thousand ideas and no coherency to them at all! That'll be yet another blog to keep up with, but I'm OK with that. I'm getting REALLY good at multi-tasking! Considering how much we have to help out my mom, if I wasn't good at it, I'd never get anything done!

Anyway, I have more work to do so I'll close this blog post with a picture of our Precious Li'l One. She is why we're working so hard to get the band going as well as everything else we're doing. As depressing as it can be to hear dead silence in regards to our arts, she makes it all worth it. Love You, My Lilybug!

That smile could melt even the coldest of hearts.

LOTS of News!

OK so it's been forever since I updated this blog. Tons has happened and tons more is about to! As you can see I FINALLY got my blog header and layout done. I'll be adding links and banners back tomorrow.

Lily is growing like a little weed. At her 2 month checkup/shot visit she weighed 11lbs 15oz. She's also in the 95th percentile for height for her age. I'm SO glad that she got her daddy's height! She's had her Christmas pictures made and they turned out SO cute. I'll be sending copies to her honorary aunts (you know who you are!) as soon as I can get more copies. Which I should get ordered from Shutterfly soon, huh?

And one more. This is Lily and Daddy, watching Hockey no less!

Speaking of honorary aunts. Each of you that have sent presents to Lily, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Every gift has helped us out immensely! Elena, those black tights worked out perfectly with the purple dress we got her with the GC's that were sent. Turns out, black tights (or ANYTHING black for that matter) are hard to find for infants. She also got her first designer clothes last week from her Great Aunt in Finland. As well as a HUGE box from her auntie T. OH! She also rolled over for the first time on Thanksgiving Day.

And now for the rest of our news. Well, at least, the part I can think of right now LOL

I'll be starting to do some makeup reviews in the near future. I'm SUCH an AL lover and hopefully I can spread the madness a bit.

There's also a new magazine on the horizon, albeit the distant horizon. I have so many projects but what's one more, right? I'll be contacting a few people for interviews and such when I get details all hashed out.

Probably the biggest news I have to share is something that's been a long time coming. Hubby and I have decided that Disciples is a go. We'll be looking for members, but in the meantime we're just gonna do it all ourselves with various softwares and such. He began practicing again a couple of days ago and I'll begin doing so in the morning (If Lily lets me). The other night I went on a hunt for new music and found 2 artists that are amazing, IMHO. Hate in the Box reminds me a lot of Emilie Autumn for some reason. Rainbow Blight has an amazing voice! And Kristen Lawrence does these amazing Halloween Carols. Below are links to vids for both of them:

Hate in the Box - Bloody Ballerina

Kristen Lawrence - Arachnitect

You can also find both these artists at Myspace. HitB's 'Pins+Needles' is awesome too.

OK that's all I can think of. I'm sure if anyone's made it this far they're ready to go to sleep now LOL. I'll leave you with the latest piece of artwork. Alice in Wonderland is inspiring many images in my head right now!

And with that I'll bid you good night. Thanks for reading!!

Blessings,
M

Get up and burn an X in your head

So this year, we got to dress up. It was Lily's first Halloween and I was NOT about to let it pass us by.

Hubby went as Hellbilly Deluxe Era, Rob Zombie. My son went as the Crow. I went as a Zombie bride and Lily went as Pooh Bear! Since I refuse to use cheap makeup on my face it just stands to reason I won't put it on them either. So I thought I'd detail what I used on them as well as showing the pictures. All of our makeup, except where noted, is from Aromaleigh.

Hubby's makeup was;

Face:
Silk Powder
Janes Addiction Mix
1y - 2 layers with damp flocked sponge
1l - 2 layers with damp flocked sponge
Ghost - 1 layer with damp flocked sponge (he's paler than my son so didn't need as much)
Janes Addiction Mix
Metamorphosis - 1 layer with Kabuki brush to pull any remaining warmth from his skin

Eyes:
Ebony all over
Back in Black Rocks for the Gradient beneath the eyes

The red X was done with a cheap lip liner from another brand

You can't really tell but I did fake dreads in hubby's hair. Twisted it while wet in sections, secure with bobby pins and when it's dry take the pins out. Worked fabulously!

My makeup I couldn't begin to tell you what I used. A lot of purples, reds and blues though! The first pic I've digi-scrapped, the others I haven't gotten to yet.

She wasn't crying because she was scared. She was crying because she didn't want her pic taken! All of our Jewelry is from Alchemy Gothic.

Most of the pieces are long retired. The Mourning Veil I bought from Gothic Auctions about 8 years ago!

My Sons makeup was:

Face:
Silk Powder
Janes Addiction Mix
1Y - 2 layers with flocked sponge
1L - 2 layers with flocked sponge
Ghost - I lost count of how many layers with flocked sponge
Metamorphosis - 1 layer with a Kabuki brush to pull any remaining warmth from his skin
Another Layer of my Janes Addiction Mix

Eyes and Lips
Nothing but Ebony Matte

And a few more.

Next year, I'm making Lily's costume. A little goth princess.

Mineral Makeup Mutiny, cause and effect!

Let me preface this with a tiny note. I haven't posted a blog in nearly two months because a) I had a baby the 6th of September and b) I'm dealing with my 3rd death since August. Subsequently, this 3rd one is why I'm trying to take my mind off things. I won't be mentioning the violating company by name but if they wanna send me a cease and desist, feel free. Word of warning, this is MY blog and I'm prone to...colorful language. ;)

I am now convinced a certain MMU company is run by wack-a-do's, fruitcakes and fruit loops. Their "legal department" is filled with them as well.

If you've been paying attention to the MMU world in the slightest, you know that a huge scandal has erupted. It's come to light that many companies that claim to be mixing their own product, aren't. What they're doing is buying mica and pigments from companies such as TKB trading and Coastal Scents and in their "get rich quick" and "ride the coat tails of the true innovators" schemes are simply rebranding them. What that means is they're putting what they buy into jars, slapping a sticker on it and jumping around like excited puppies and saying "Look at me, this is what I did, I mixed my own loose mineral eyeshadows!"

No, you didn't. You bought pigment, put it in a jar and the extent of your creativity is to make a photoshop label. You didn't even put the ingredients in there that help it stay on! Do you have ANY idea how lame you are? But you can't stop there, oh no. You then show us you're even lamer by ripping off not only collection names, but collection descriptions from the site of one of the TRUE pioneers in MMU. If you had a half a brain cell you'd of known there was too much of a following; that you'd of eventually been found out.

It seems though, your lameness knows NO bounds. You then have your attorney (whom I'd bet got their license to practice law from a cracker jack box) to start sending cease and desist letters. What for, you ask? To one blogger because they refuse to give your product a glowing review. So you play the defamation card because she was brave enough to name your operation. An operation that, in her opinion and mine from the evidence I've seen, is simply repackaging pigments from other companies. You can not sue someone, not even me, for having an opinion and posting comparisons for others to make up their own minds. And had the attorney bothered to crack open a law book, he'd know it's only defamation when someone states flat out that things are different from what they are. Phyrra did NOT state it flat out as fact and it'd be for you to prove she was wrong in order to win a defamation suit. I don't know if you've looked at our countries constitution lately, but there's this lovely amendment in there, the 1st one. Since our illustrious attorney seems to not of ever read it, I post it here for their perusal.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Blogging is utilizing 2 of those rights; freedom of speech and freedom of press.

But, dear readers, it gets better. Another C&D letter went out. This time to, are you ready for this? The company she ripped off! That has pages and pages of PROOF. Hmm, now let us think about that. Actual, irrefutable proof that her intellectual property had been pilfered and SHE gets a C&D. Does anyone else see anything wrong with this picture? Yep, me too. Let us not forget, a customer of the innovator company has been threatened with a lawsuit based on something she said in a personal email. Is that the music from the Twilight Zone I'm hearing?

In this bloggers not so humble opinion repackagers are running scared. You see, a new movement is under way, The Mineral Makeup Mutiny. The MMM was started by one concerned Makeup-ista to educate the masses. To let all of us know which companies are being HONEST in their practices. Nothing is wrong with repackaging when the companies that do so tell us they do. Many who create their own colors also do have pure pigment we can buy as well, though many of those companies are now discontinuing them due to these shady businesses. They wish to stand out as the true artisans they are. Who can blame them? Not me, that's for sure!

Want to educate yourself? There are a couple of places you can do so. One being Fresco Phyrra's blog, the other being Mineral Makeup Mutiny At MMM you can also find other bloggers who are working to find the companies that give us original creations.

And since I refuse to be accused of being deceptive, this name is my artist name. If you'd rather send my Cease and Desist to my other name, that'd be Mahym from the blog of the company you ripped off. ;)

The Art of Goth Couture

I figure this is my blog and if I wanna go OT I can! The other day a question got asked at the Aromaleigh forums about goth/vampy clothing and it got me thinking. How many others are out there, interested in the style of dress, but with no clue where to start? OK maybe not that many but if there's even one, this post (and I'm sure future posts) will hopefully help them.

The first thing to remember is just because it's a store like Macy's or Penney's doesn't mean they won't have clothing you can wear. Every goth girlie needs staples. Black skirts in various lengths, black pants, etc. Stores like Target often get shoes and boots with goth flair to them. The "look" can come from the accessories you choose. Which I'll get to in a bit.

One thing I would suggest, learn to do some rudimentary sewing, then pick up scrap cloth when you can. Lace, Brocades and ribbon go a long way to turning the mundane into something extraordinary. Don't discount goodwills and Salvation army type stores either. They can be a treasure trove of gothy goodness.

So now you've got your basics, you've become a thrift store Goddess but you want more. You've drooled over the goth clothing sites on the 'net and you're ready to make the leap. Remember, dressing this way is about being YOU. Love the Elegance and Romanticism of Vampires? Then find sites that cater to lace, velvets and brocades. Are you more edgy? Then find the ones that cater to vinyls and leathers. Are you a bit of both? Then you can do both!

What if you've found that one to-die-for piece of clothing but it's out of your price range? You can do a couple of things. The first is to save up for it. In a world that's used to instant gratification it can be difficult, in the end it is worth it though. Waiting for it to go on seasonal clearance would be your best bet. The one really good thing us goth lovers have going for us...trends mean very little. So what if you have to pack it away for 6-8 months, it won't be out of style when you finally can wear it! Ebay is another good way to get the specific pieces you want at a fraction of the cost.

Goth is not all about wearing black clothes, having a pale white face with dark eyes and lips. My closet consists of lots of black, no doubt, but there's a lot of jewel tones in there too. My dresses are black and red, black and sapphire and black and amethyst among other colors. My makeup is even more varied. Yes I have blacks, reds, purples but I also have pinks, yellows, blues and even aqua. If you're pale skinned then accentuate it. In this day and age of skin cancer and sun damage that causes aging loving your skin is the best thing you can do. Find a foundation that blends with your skin and don't try to make your skin a color that it isn't. Later in this post I'll list some makeup companies that love us pale skinned beauties :)

Once you have the clothes, accessories are a necessity. Jewelry is easy to find. Companies abound such as Alchemy Gothic. Raveneve has beautiful Victorian chokers there are also other sites that specialize in this style of jewelry. Check Etsy and Ebay as well, the prices are generally a bit better, but the sellers tends to have more one of a kind pieces.

Shoes are easily found. Doing a search for Demonia will turn up dozens of sites that carry the brand. There's also the old standby favorite Doc Martens. If stockings and armwarmers are something you'd like to add to your wardrobe, head on over to Sock Dreams. They also have lingerie bags, mild detergents and even footcare to help you get the most from your new, oh so cool, stockings.

Do you want to add some funky colors into your hair but you're afraid the look won't be for you? Try clip-in extensions, ponyfalls or even a wig. Clip-ins and ponyfalls will give you a better idea of how the colors will look with your skin tone and existing hair color. Should you decide to dye it Manic Panic is the easiest to obtain. It doesn't last long though. If you want a more long term solution Pravana is worth checking into.

I could go on, but this should give some thoughts and direction to go in. Below are a few cosmetic companies worth checking into.

Aromaleigh is the first. Lots of pale foundation shades in 2 different formulas. With the sample option you can find your shade without spending a small fortune. Over 400 eyeshadows guarantee you can find colors that work for you and a host of finishing powders to give that flawless coverage.

Another worth looking into is Meow Cosmetics Admittedly I've only tried the shadows and liners but with a sample program you can try a few items and see what suits you!

This last one, Archetype, I haven't ordered from yet. Shipping is slow but Phyrra has tried their pigments and loves them. I will be ordering eventually and at .25/shadow sample it might pay off.

For amazing scents there are two places I recommend. The first is Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab or bpal. The other is Velvet Moon Bathery which carries soaps and such as well.

In parting, remember there are no set rules. Be you and find a style that says so!

Birthday from hell!

I meant to do this earlier today but well, the last several days have been a bit more madness than I can handle.

Yesterday was my 36th birthday and I've vowed I'm not having anymore! My husband, being the gem that he is, was the first to wish me a happy birthday; somewhere around midnight. I went to sleep feeling happy and content. That changed at about 11:30 yesterday morning.

My mom had gone with my uncle J to his oncology appointment. We knew he had lung cancer, what we didn't know was how bad. Yes we had speculated based on the type, placement, symptoms but I don't think we were really prepared for the full blow. I know I wasn't.

Uncle J has stage 3b squamous cell carcinoma. Which is directly related to asbestos. The tumor is the size of a grapefruit and has 75% of his left lung blocked. The doctor who did the biopsy told us they couldn't do radiation, which was a big concern. However, his oncologist told him yesterday he intends to treat it with chemo and radiation. There is no operating on it right now, it's much too large.

The good news, if there is any, is that he has an 80% survival rate IF the full body scan reveals it hasn't spread tomorrow. We have to be realistic though as there is an 85% chance it will return should they manage to eliminate it. He does have a polyp on his wind pipe. Monday he goes to yet another doctor to have surgery scheduled to remove it, to help his breathing. Right now he's on oxygen and 2 inhalers.

To top it all off, Uncle J's daughter came in over the weekend but left at 1 a.m Monday morning. This leaves my mom to go with him to his appointments, which she does because that's her brother. However, my mom is in bad shape too. One knee replaced, same knee needs surgery to remove scar tissue, other knee needs replaced, she's got the worst case of osteo in the state...you get the idea. Thankfully, another brother is willing to go to some of these appts. starting next week. But mom will be the one checking on him every day, making sure he eats, etc. My oldest sister has already made him promise when the time comes and he's too sick that he'll come stay with them. I know Uncle J though, he'll fight doing it until he just can't anymore.

This wasn't all that happened yesterday, lets just suffice it to say I wanted a cave to hide in.

It also wasn't all bad. One of my AL Sisters sent me a present, just to try and make me smile. Robyn, you'll never know just how much it means to me that you went out of your way to give me that smile. From the very bottom of my heart, Thank You! I'm still trying to decide what to pick up, seeing as it's been 8 months since I've bought anything. That should be changing soon, as long as everything goes to plan.

Those who are sending energies, lighting candles and praying for my uncle...Thank You. Right now he needs them and every little bit helps.

Love You Guys!!

Welcome to Dark Decadence

Blood is the new Black!

I must apologize for the bland nature of this blog. I wanted to get it up as quickly as I could and new headers will come in the near future. :)

I'm the first to admit I hate talking about myself. However, a blog makes it a bit easier to do so. The purpose of this blog is to connect with those who appreciate my artwork, may wish to commission work or who may wish to speak to a fellow artist.

First, I'm Morgana and if you've found your way here I hope to hear from you. I'm an almost 36 year old mom of one son who's 16 and married to the man of my dreams ;) Obviously, I'm a graphic artist but beyond that I'm so much more. I'm a musician, vocalist actually. Genre of choice is black/goth/death metal. My husband, Morien, is a brilliant guitarist and I love that we can share our interests in almost everything!

My art style will make itself known soon enough, but in the mean time I'll try to describe it to you..

Darkly Decadent is an epiphany I had just in the last day or two. I'm known to do images that feature elegant vamps, the romanticism of the undead captured me long ago and that is what tends to come forth. If you've come here via MtA, then you know I do much more than that. Everything from gothy toons to pinups, both mundane and fantastical, get sent to me via the muse. I no longer fight her on those pieces, she tends to get angry and go off drinking absinthe for weeks on end if I do. No muse = no work gets done! Despite that I still I have dry spells where nothing comes together as I envision it. After 7 years I'm used to that aspect of being an artist. If you would like to see me tackle a given genre though I will certainly give it a try.

Most of my inspiration comes from 2 things: Music and my family. I am fortunate to have a wonderful man at my side. Gothic Romance imagery comes to me as easy as breathing. I owe him and my son so much. They are my strength and carry a fierce belief in me even when my own belief fails me. As far as music goes, I see beauty where most don't. I've been known to toss Cradle of Filth onto the mp3 player and create some of the most hauntingly beautiful images. Never doubt there is beauty in darkness, for there is.

Today I was lucky enough to finish a piece that I am insanely proud of. That, dear reader, is what I shall leave you with.

This piece will be available for purchase from MtA in a couple of days. If you're interested in seeing more of my work you can go to the following urls.
